The making of a Wedding Invite!

Weddings!  My favorite holiday.  Ah yes, that special time of year when we all come together to pledge our undying love for trees.  It was finally my honor, chosen by the Royal Guildigers, to make next years wedding invitation and here is a brief account of my process.

I started out by drawing the central illustration, which tradition determined it be a tree.

I’m not sure how these inscriptions founds themselves in here, but I thought they looked nice so I kept them.  Looks like Bad Wolf strikes again!

I wanted a simple layout, with not much type cluttering the composition.  After all, everyone knows what a wedding is, so brevity was my approach.

Picking fonts was one of the hardest aspects of my task.  I couldn’t narrow it down to 1 font, nor three.  I used 7 fonts in my first draft.  At this point I was able to trim it down to 4.

I still wasn’t happy with the way the type looked so I tried making my own font.  Here it is applied to the word ‘banana’.

At this point I was so upset, I threw away all drafts and started anew.  I decided to take a much more ‘illustrative’ approach, make it more colourful and use only hand drawn type.  It took me all of yesterday to make the the final version but I’m very happy with how it all turned out.
All praise Queen Halaila and Happy Wedding everyone!
